Reason why people find it hard to draw the figure, is they don't know how to measure it! The principle of measuring is easy to understand, then it's practice!

Cannot come to a weekly class?
All day Saturday general art classes are held 2nd Saturday of each month. 10am to 3pm. Lydiate L31 4EQ. Fee £30 per Saturday.
This general art class is for people who cannot make the weekly classes, and follows the same course content, suitable for beginners and those with limited experience wanting to improve technique and learn more styles. Once you've learned the very basics of drawing & painting, much of what you do is experimenting and learning new techniques.
I teach you to work in a spontaneous and instinctive way, rather than copying! Which results in lifeless photographic copies. Most beginners tell me they want to paint like ‘the impressionist’. Which is the style I teach. You will be shown and encouraged to paint lose & spontaneously, following your own instinct rather than copying!
All day Sunday semi-abstraction to abstraction workshops are held 2nd Sunday of each month. Possibly a weekly Wednesday afternoon. Contact me for dates.
The class will be a very friendly and interactive class, where we learn from each other, as opposed to struggling on one’s own at home, for example.
It’s easy to be put off from experimenting working towards semi-abstraction, eventually full abstraction, as it’s such a wide-ranging subject and therefore easy to stumble and get lost!
For this reason, it’s intended that the class will develop from the very basics, starting with semi-abstraction through to abstraction, done over a period of 12 months. A step-by-step approach to ensure a thorough understanding of each process before moving on to the next stage.
Also to encourage you to work at home with a combination of research and practice. This approach to art is very creative and doing the research will be enjoyable and rewarding, as it will reveal ways of doing art differently that would otherwise not occur to us or appearing too difficult to make a start.
Once you have half of an idea, Varsha and Roy will then talk & demonstrate you through various was of drawing & sketching processes to reveal the different ways to help you to develop the idea further.
Fee £35 per Sunday, once a month (second Sunday of the month)
Life drawing class from a model have also at Lydiate. Fee £30
The all day Saturday class, 10 till 3.30pm is the first Saturday of each month . The class, held at Lydiate parish hall, L31 4EQ is within easy reach of Southport, Formby, Liverpool, Preston and Ormskirk.
The life class is also structured, to teach you from the very basics, drawing and measuring. At the same time being introduced to charcoal so that you can begin to understand tonal work before you move on to the painting process.
Those with experience of life drawing can come along and further their knowledge and technique of working directly from the life model.
